Why Consider Pet Insurance?
As pet owners, we cherish our furry companions and strive to provide them with the best care possible. However, unexpected accidents and illnesses can lead to significant veterinary expenses. Pet insurance offers a safety net, helping to manage these costs and ensuring that your pets receive the care they need without financial strain.
Safeco’s Pet Insurance Options
Safeco offers two comprehensive pet insurance policies designed to meet the diverse needs of pet owners:
Accident & Illness Policy
This policy is ideal for covering unexpected, catastrophic incidents. It includes coverage for accidental injuries, illnesses (such as cancer and influenza), alternative medicine, behavioral therapy, hereditary and congenital conditions, ingestion of foreign objects, and more. It even covers euthanasia, anesthesia, cremation, and burial expenses, as well as accidental death.
Accidents, Illness & Wellness Policy
For those seeking more comprehensive coverage, this option includes everything in the Accident & Illness policy, plus additional benefits for wellness services and preventive care. This means fixed payment amounts for routine dental cleanings, physical examinations, fecal examinations, intestinal deworming, heartworm tests, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, prescribed vitamin supplements, and vaccinations.
Understanding the Coverage
Many pet owners may not realize that an Accident & Illness policy alone doesn’t cover routine tests and procedures. These costs can add up quickly, making the Accidents, Illness & Wellness policy a valuable option for managing both expected and unexpected expenses. With the wellness benefits, you can receive 100% reimbursement for covered expenses up to specified limits, making routine care more affordable.
Eligibility and Exclusions
Safeco’s pet insurance is available for cats and dogs aged eight weeks and older. However, dogs over 13 years and cats over 15 years are not eligible for new policies. Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures, spaying/neutering, and costs associated with breeding or pregnancy are not covered. It’s important to review the list of exclusions and understand the waiting periods, deductibles, and benefit limits that may apply.
How Pet Insurance Works
Pet insurance with Safeco offers flexibility with various policy, deductible, and reimbursement options. This allows pet owners to tailor their coverage to fit their needs and budget. There is a 14-day waiting period for all coverages, ensuring that your pet is protected from the moment the policy becomes active.
